    About this wine

Aglianico is the most beautiful grape of southern Italyë. The grape grows in the area between Naples and Bari. Aglianico grapes are small, with a thick skin. The best wines from Aglianico are the Taurasi, powerhouses with firm tannins and high acidity. Not entirely unjustly, therefore, this wine is called the Barolo of the South.

Joaquin's Aglianico plots are legendary: 1.2 hectares of unënte vines of vóór Phylloxera, between 150 and 200 years old, high above the ground and far apart, with gnarled trunks and huge arms reaching across the rows.

This amazing plot is located in the municipality of Paternopoli, in the southernmost and coolest subzone of the Taurasi appellation. Raffaele produces a Taurasi only in the best vintages. In other vintages, he produces this declassified wine: "I Viaggiatori" ("The Travelers"), a spicy but finesse-driven Aglianico. Some of the wine is aged for 24 months in 500-liter chestnut and acacia barrels, after a 15-day maceration in old open wood barrels. It combines spicy, resonant acidity with dark cherry fruit. While the tannins are firm, as befits the variëteit, the lingering impression is one of freshness.
