Le Gonnare is a small vineyard, overlooking the Ligurian sea, that Fabio Motta bought in 2012. Le Gonnare is among the best vineyards in Bolgheri. Located 50 metres above sea level, it consists of 85% Merlot and 15% Syrah - a classic blend for the Bolgheri appellation. Thanks to its north-east exposure, the midday heat does not overwhelm the vines, allowing the grapes to ripen harmoniously. The soil composition with light clay and stones shows many similarities to the soil structure in the better parts of Pomerol and St Emilion. The Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Le Gonnare therefore has all the ingredients for a top wine!
Fabio Motta's Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Le Gonnare is a masterpiece of Merlot and Syrah. The colour is intense ruby red with purple tones. The nose is fruity, with predominant aromas of amarena cherry and dark forest fruit. Nice floral bouquet with dark chocolate, vanilla and some thyme. The palate is fresh, with dark fruit and some spicy notes and a nice briny minerality. The tannins are present, but nicely ripe and round in excellent balance with the wood. The finish is infinitely long.
Fabio Motta's Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Le Gonnare is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Syrah grapes, from the 30-year-old vineyard Le Gonnare, located at 50 metres altitude and overlooking the Ligurian Sea. Since 2015, Fabio Motta has been using a biodynamic method in the vineyard.
The grapes are harvested in small crates, fully destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in cement tanks without glazing, with particular attention to maceration times.
After natural malolactic fermentation, the wine goes into barriques, a quarter of which are new, with a preference for light toasting. Here the wine matures for about 18 months and, after the necessary filtering, it is ready to be bottled. It stays in the bottle for at least 1 year.
