Langhe Nebbiolo Pian delle Mole 2023

Giulia Negri

DruivenNebbiolo

Langhe Nebbiolo Pian delle Mole 2023 is the most approachable Nebbiolo of the estate, but far from a simple wine. Spontaneously fermented in steel, then eighteen months in steel and large wooden vats. Floral, mineral and surprisingly fine in tannin.

  • Tasting Note Langhe Nebbiolo Pian delle Mole 2023

A bright, translucent ruby red with garnet reflections — notably pale in hue, characteristic of the cool exposure. On the nose expressive and refined: violets and rose petals, followed by wild strawberry, red cherry and subtle hints of mint and tobacco. With time in the glass, fresh mineral nuances emerge. On the palate lively and energetic, with a supple yet present tannic structure and a crisp acidity. The body is pleasantly medium-full, underpinned by ripe red fruit and a light earthy depth. The finish is long, mineral and elegant.

    About this wine

Giulia Negri is one of the most talked-about names of the new generation of Piedmontese winemakers. She took over the family estate of Serradenari at the age of twenty-four — a property that has been in the family for over a century and a half — and converted the vineyards to organic viticulture. With an uncompromising approach and a keen eye for terroir, she quickly established herself as one of the most respected young producers in the Langhe.

Pian delle Mole — named after the old millstones found in the vineyard — grows on the lowest parcels of Serradenari, at approximately 500 metres, on a north-facing slope with Messinian soils of sandy-clay composition. The cool exposure and fresh microclimate are the source of the wine's hallmark tension and vibrancy.

The harvest is carried out entirely by hand. In the cellar the Nebbiolo ferments spontaneously in stainless steel, with a maceration of around twenty days. The wine then ages for some eighteen months, divided between steel and truncated-conical wooden vats of sixty hectolitres.
