“This is where I make my wines, or rather, it is where Serradenari makes its wines. It is not the magician who chooses the wand but the wand that chooses the magician.” With these words, Giulia Negri captures her deep connection to her origins.
In Piedmont, tradition is not a backdrop but a foundation. Giulia Negri grew up among the vineyards of Serradenari, one of the highest and coolest crus of Barolo. Her family has farmed this site for more than a century and a half. When Giulia entered the wine world at a young age, she could easily have relied on that history and on the renowned name of Barolo. Instead, she consciously chose her own path: with respect for the past, but without dogma.
Giulia transformed the family estate into a personal, quality-driven domain in which terroir always has the final word. From her very first harvest, she demonstrated that Nebbiolo from Serradenari is not about power, but about precision, tension, and elegance. Her wines are pure in character, refined in structure, and carried by a natural freshness that stems directly from the altitude and the cool microclimate.
The vineyards are located around Serradenari and on carefully selected parcels in La Morra, on calcareous marl soils that provide finesse and minerality. In the cellar, Giulia follows a restrained approach: minimal intervention, spontaneous fermentation where possible, and ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, complemented by partly used barriques. Everything is aimed at allowing the voice of the vineyard to speak clearly.
The result is wines with a free spirit and a clear soul: Barolos and Nebbiolos that do not impress through volume, but convince through clarity, energy, and a deep connection to Serradenari.
